01. Things I've built

A few tricks from my act: real problems, practical fixes, and no smoke and mirrors.

TORLYS

EDI automation: 210 in, 997 out

Replaced an expensive, proprietary EDI solution costing up to $4,800 a year. I designed, built, and deployed the replacement end to end: n8n and Azure SFTP receive inbound EDI 210 freight invoices and feed them into Business Central, then send the outbound 997 acknowledgments automatically.

  • n8n
  • Azure SFTP
  • Business Central
  • EDI 210 / 997

TORLYS

Intranet Sales Dashboard

The sales team needed one unified dashboard for their day-to-day sales support work. I designed, built, and deployed it end to end: a Next.js intranet hub on Business Central APIs, rolled out to roughly 40 sales reps.

  • Weekly, month-to-date and year-to-date sales against prior year, plus a shipping and fulfillment summary
  • Customer drill-down: account financials, 12-month sales trend, and top products
  • Pricing tools: review internal price lists, propose changes, compare against project pricing, export to Excel
  • Project quote tracking, project line edits, and in-store display management by location
  • Next.js
  • Business Central APIs
  • Dashboards
  • Pricing tools

TORLYS

Network & virtualization modernization

Modernized the core infrastructure: I refreshed the switches and routers, upgraded the edge firewalls to Palo Alto, and moved the internal virtualized infrastructure from VMware to Nutanix, saving thousands by moving off VMware licensing and support costs.

  • Palo Alto
  • Nutanix
  • VMware
  • Networking

02. The spellbook

Everything here serves one goal: fewer clicks, less rework, and more time back for people.

Automate

Let the machines do the repetitive part.

  • n8n workflows
  • Appsmith internal tools
  • Business Central automation
  • APIs & webhooks
  • EDI (210 / 997)
  • Azure SFTP
  • PowerShell

Simplify

Fewer steps, fewer surprises.

  • Process improvement
  • Change management
  • ITIL change & configuration management
  • Retiring legacy processes
  • Bilingual training (EN / FR)
  • Responsible AI

Build

Custom tools where off-the-shelf falls short.

  • Dynamics 365 Business Central
  • AL development
  • Business Central APIs
  • Next.js
  • Web development
  • Technical architecture

Run & protect

Stable, secure, and boring in the best way.

  • Microsoft 365 & Azure AD
  • Exchange Online
  • Active Directory & Group Policy
  • Cisco networking
  • Palo Alto firewalls
  • VMware & Nutanix
  • SAN
  • Cybersecurity (CrowdStrike, Firepower)

Lead

Growing people and pointing everyone the same way.

  • Team leadership & mentorship
  • IT strategy & budget
  • Vendor & project oversight
  • Contract negotiation
  • Stakeholder management
  • Public speaking

03. Automation & AI

Tools I trust, and the guardrails that keep them honest.

Workflow automation

n8n

Connecting the systems teams already use through APIs and webhooks, so repetitive handoffs run on their own and people spend time on work that needs judgment.

  • APIs
  • Webhooks
  • Integrations

Internal tools

Appsmith

Turning databases and APIs into purpose-built dashboards and admin tools fast, so teams get an interface that fits their process instead of a spreadsheet workaround.

  • Low-code
  • Dashboards
  • Admin tools

Success acceleration

AI, used responsibly

AI is a force multiplier, not an autopilot. I keep a human in the loop, verify outputs, protect sensitive data, and train teams so adoption sticks and the ROI is measurable.

04. Where I've worked

Twenty-plus years in IT, from the help desk to owning the infrastructure.

  1. TORLYS

    Current2014 – Present
    • IT Systems Supervisor Aug 2021 – Present

Lead in-house developer for Dynamics 365 Business Central customization, writing the company extension in AL for an estimated $200,000+ a year saved in consultant billing. Built custom pricing and claims modules and automated warehouse tasks, including Bill of Lading improvements. I lead and develop the IT team, set the technology direction and IT budget, and oversee vendors and projects.

    • System and Cybersecurity Administrator Aug 2014 – Aug 2021

Ran the full infrastructure: Microsoft 365 and hybrid Azure AD, Exchange Online, Cisco networking, VMware, SAN, Mitel VoIP, IPSec VPNs, and endpoint protection with CrowdStrike and Firepower. Co-developed the graduate internship mentoring program and mentored its first two students.

  2. Nestlé Purina North America

    2012 – 2014
    • Bilingual Training & Innovations Specialist Sep 2013 – Aug 2014

Researched emerging technologies and blended them with digital marketing to solve common problems, while improving the company's security posture.

    • IT Co-Ordinator Jun 2012 – Sep 2013

Point of contact for user support and administration of the network, server, and endpoint infrastructure. Intermediary with the global infrastructure teams for deployments and migrations.

  3. RBC

    • Senior Analyst Jun 2011 – Jun 2012

Tested and validated updates to the base Windows images across all company hardware under ITIL change and configuration management, improving security posture. Used relationships with Microsoft engineers to resolve complex issues faster.

    • Windows Infrastructure Analyst May 2007 – Jun 2010

Escalated support for Active Directory, including updates, backup integrity, and Group Policy changes under formal change management, with a growing cybersecurity focus.

    • 1st and 2nd Tier Analyst Sep 2005 – May 2007

Progressed from Tier 1 to Tier 2 support, handled incident and problem management, and coached Tier 1 analysts.

05. About me

I started on the help desk in 2005 and never lost my curiosity for how things work. That curiosity took me through Active Directory and security at RBC, IT coordination at Nestlé Purina, and system and cybersecurity administration at TORLYS, where I'm now IT Systems Supervisor, leading the IT team and owning the infrastructure.

Along the way I've picked up a few tricks: writing our Business Central extension in AL (an estimated $200,000+ a year in consultant hours saved), automating the manual stuff, and keeping the firewalls honest. I work with an operator's mindset, because software only counts once the frontline teams actually use it, so I train in both English and French, and mentor whenever I can.
